Flu Vaccines

Prevent Seasonal Flu by Getting Vaccinated!
The annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce your chances of contracting the seasonal flu and lessen the chance of transmitting it to others. The flu vaccine acts as shield protecting you and others from the seasonal influenza virus. If you are at higher risk of developing serious flu complications, the flu vaccine is especially important.  As we continue our battle with COVID-19, consider getting the flu vaccine to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community.
CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated every flu season. Talk to your health care provider about the flu vaccine, especially if you have an allegoric reaction after a previous dose of the influenza vaccine or has ever had Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). Read more about the flu vaccine

What is the flu?

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza viruses. For the 2019-2020 flu season, the CDC estimated that the flu resulted in 35 million illnesses, 16 million hospitalizations, and 380,000 deaths.
How is it spread?
The flu is spread person-to-person (directly) through droplets when coughing, sneezing, or talking. It can also spread indirectly, when a person touches a surface with the flu virus and then touches their face.

What are common flu symptoms?

People who have the flue often feel some or all of the symptoms listed below that usually start suddenly:

  • Fever

  • Chills

  • Cough

  • Sore Throat

  • Runny/stuffy nose

  • Body aches

  • Headaches

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea (these symptoms are more common in children as compared to adults)

What should I do if I think I have the flu?

  • Talk to or visit your health care providers

  • Stay hydrated

  • Stay home  for at least 24 hours until fever subsides

  • Avoid close contact with people

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes

  • Wash hands properly with soap and water (wet, lather, scrub, rinse, dry)
