Research Interests: Stress resilience, psychophysiology, emotional intelligence, broadening participation in STEM
Tamera Schneider’s research interests include stress resilience, persuasion for physical and environmental health, and parity in STEM. She developed the biobehavioral model of persuasion to understand how persuasion can influence the mind and body to compel health behavior change. The model has been investigated in the domain of cancer-related health behaviors in real-world and virtual environments and has been extended to promote extreme weather-related mitigation and adaptation behaviors. She applied aspects of this model in a three-tiered approach to developing a more welcoming STEM workplace for women scientists and engineers. She developed an effective implicit bias workshop that increased awareness and enhanced associations of women in STEM, and persuaded favorable attitudes toward STEM women faculty. Her current research includes developing emotional competencies in team members to enhance team performance and foster innovation.
