Professor Carmichael's research aims to better understand the ways in which social interactions between close relationship partners impact health and well-being. She examines how particular relationship processes (such as sharing positive news, and providing social support), and the affective experiences occurring as a result of those processes, impact short- and long-term physical health and emotional adjustment. These processes are examined in the lab, and in the natural ebb and flow of daily life.
