The platform, funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, was designed to be both intuitive and collaborative. Any organization can install the open-source platform and upload their own texts for interactive reading and annotation.
“Manifold will open up possibilities for the publishing of scholarly monographs and position the GC as an institution thinking about the future of scholarly publishing,” said Professor Matthew K. Gold (English/Liberal Studies), the Executive Officer of the M.A. Program in Liberal Studies and Advisor to the Provost for Digital Initiatives.
Manifold is organized around the idea of projects, with a project including the text of the book and the array of materials the author chooses to publish with it. Each project page is linked to the print book, the project’s social media, and supplemental material.
