Dear Graduate Center community,

It was terrific to have so many of you join Tuesday’s informative session about the available COVID-19 vaccines and their effectiveness. We strongly encourage everyone who can be vaccinated to do so as soon as possible to minimize your personal risk.

Vaccination Policy: The CUNY Board of Trustees was originally scheduled to meet on June 28 to consider a proposed CUNY-wide student vaccination policy. That meeting has been postponed to July 6 so that it can be conducted in person. Consequently, this week’s newsletter will be brief, and a special edition will be sent after the board meeting.

Library Study Space: The opening of the Graduate Center library study space for students and faculty has been very successful. Students tell us they are thrilled to have a peaceful place to study and write. Up to 50 seats are available each day and they can be reserved up to 24 hours in advance. Make a reservation on the library website.

Student Emergency Grants: We urge all students who are facing immediate financial need toapply for emergency grants, now available from funding provided by Congress through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act (CRRSAA). Grants of up to $1,000 are available.

Transition to On-Site Work: The Office of Human Resources is offering a series of workshops to help employees plan for the return to on-site work. At Transition Workshops, human resources representatives will address the new CUNY Flexible Work Guidelines [cuny.edu] and the Remote Work Agreements [cuny.edu] that are due on July 15. A workshop with CCA, our employee assistance plan provider, will help employees manage the stress that may accompany the transition.

Key Dates:

  • July 15: Deadline for supervisors to submit approved Remote Work Agreements to the Office of Human Resources for the employees they supervise.
  • August 2: CUNY-wide date for employees to return to in-person work. Remote work plans must be approved in advance.
  • August 25: Start of the fall 2021 semester. The campus will operate under the reopening guidelines that have been approved by CUNY. We will also comply with prevailing policies on vaccination and testing.
