Prepare for 1/8 Power Shutdown
Dear Graduate Center and ASRC community,
We write to inform you that a long-planned electrical upgrade to The Graduate Center’s 365 Fifth Avenue building will affect our community starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 8, until noon on Sunday, January 10. The electrical upgrade means that power in the entire building will be shut down, and internal network services will be offline during this time.
There will be no access to Graduate Center desktop computers starting on Friday afternoon. Faculty and staff who have made arrangements to be in building on Friday will need to log off from their desktop computers and leave the building by 2 p.m.
Those who access their desktop computers using a virtual private network (VPN) need to log off from their desktop computers by 2 p.m. Please plan ahead and download needed files before 2 p.m. on Friday so that you can continue working.
Only essential workers will be allowed in the building after 3 p.m. on Friday. The building will reopen on Sunday, January 10, at noon.
Within the building, WiFi and telephone services will be offline. Voicemail will still function, and you will be able to access your voicemail messages remotely.
Email service is expected to continue and you will be able to access your email as usual. Remote library services will also be available during this time.
If there are any unexpected service interruptions, we will send updates on the GC’s Twitter account, @GC_CUNY.
We expect that the impact on our services and remote working will be minimal, and we deeply appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
