Coronavirus Guidance and Update
The Graduate Center is working in close collaboration with CUNY leadership to monitor developments related to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), and we are following the U.S. Centers for Disease Control reports, which advise schools and businesses to be prepared for the spread of coronavirus in the U.S.
We are also monitoring information from the New York State Department of Health and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to be prepared should the virus impact our New York City community. Our planning and decision-making will continue to be based on information from these reliable sources.
As noted by the New York City Department of Health, “It is important to listen to facts and not respond to fear.”
At present, the department notes, “There are no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in New York City and the risk to New Yorkers remains low. However, transmission of the virus in other countries has raised our level of concern, and we are preparing for the possibility of person-to-person transmission in New York City.”
We invite you to review CUNY’s Coronavirus Guidance Update, which includes updates on the situation as well CUNY policies on the following topics: study abroad; travel; what to do if you display symptoms; and accommodating affected students, faculty, and staff. You will also find links to helpful resources and guidance, which are listed below.
Students who are feeling anxious about the situation and/or worried about friends and family because of the news about the virus are encouraged to reach out to The Graduate Center’s Wellness Center.
We recognize that the situation is unpredictable, and we don’t know how CUNY and New York City as a whole might be affected down the road. We will be alert to any safety measures that must be taken and we will also do everything possible to sustain student academic progress. We will continue to keep you updated on the situation and our response.
