“Music from Copland House has become our paramount keeper of Copland’s flame.” American Record Guide
In describing his exhilarating Sextet for Clarinet, Piano, and String Quartet, Aaron Copland said he “was determined to write the most perfected piece as I possibly could.” He triumphed, with an instrumental tour-de-force that is one of the 20th-century’s most fabled musical compositions. Decades after it was composed in the 1930s, the Sextet remains one of Copland’s most daunting pieces for performers, due to its daredevil complexities, rhythmic challenges, and tangle of jazz-inspired syncopations.
The internationally-acclaimed Music from Copland House ensemble plays this remarkable work, with a pre-performance discussion among the artists, and a live, post-performance Q&A between viewers and ensemble members.
Music from Copland House Artists: Derek Bermel, clarinet; Danielle Farina, violist; Alexis Pia Gerlach, cellist; and Michael Boriskin, pianist.
