Description

In this session Diandra Verwayne, a NYC public school teacher, and Kirsten Cole, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education at the Borough of Manhattan Community College CUNY and UEd alum, will discuss and reflect on our collaboration. Our partnership has focused on engaging early childhood educators and families in supporting young children’s healthy racial identity development, and began when Kirsten’s child was a student in Diandra’s kindergarten class. At this session we’ll talk about the impetus for this work as well as the opportunities and challenges in doing work when our relationship as teachers/mothers/researchers is
necessarily commingled.
