Rebecca Banchik Named Director of the GC’s Human Resource Protection Program
Rebecca Banchik was recently appointed the director of The Graduate Center’s Human Research Protection Program. In this role, she provides regulatory and administrative oversight of human subject research conducted by Graduate Center faculty, students, and administrators.
She is focused on bringing awareness of CUNY’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulatory and ethical requirements to The Graduate Center with an emphasis on education and outreach.
She will provide educational support to students and faculty on ways to properly submit research applications while trying to reduce the burden and obstacles researchers sometimes face on the path to approval. She will also help to ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies surrounding human subject research.
Banchik brings to The Graduate Center extensive experience in the human research protection field. She spent the last 13 years working with a team in the Program for the Protection of Human Subjects (PPHS) at the Icahn school of Medicine at Mount Sinai, most recently as assistant director.
She has a B.A. in psychology and Spanish from Lafayette College and is a certified IRB professional. In her spare time, she runs a food-related blog, Foodie in the Frills, and volunteers as a class assistant at Murray’s Cheese in New York.
