The Graduate Center at the City University of New York invites applications for the Marilyn Jacobs Gittell Visiting Professorship. The Gittell Visiting Professor, who will be appointed at the associate or full professor level, will work to extend the visionary legacy of Marilyn Gittell by sharing her commitments to social justice, urban politics, and public policy viewed broadly through an intersectional lens. The successful candidate will be an established, tenured scholar in the social sciences with an outstanding reputation and record of research, publication and grant activity whose work is grounded in democratic theory and who specializes in such issues as urban politics and policies, education, community organizing and organizations, economic development, and welfare policy.

The successful candidate will be appointed at the CUNY Graduate Center for one semester or a year and will be expected to teach one graduate course per semester in a program appropriate to her or his training and expertise. The Gittell Visiting Professor should also plan to be in residence at the Graduate  Center and to participate in the intellectual life of the University by attending conferences, seminars, and  colloquia. S/he will also be expected to present at least one scholarly talk each semester of residence.


Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
