What You Can Support |
| Annual Fund
During the current economic crisis, the Annual Fund of The Graduate Center will be used to provide direct assistance to doctoral students. These outstanding young scholars are especially vulnerable because financial strains result in an increase in educational costs, a decrease in the amount of financial aid available, and fewer employment opportunities both within and beyond academe. Without additional support, many could be forced to interrupt or abandon their studies altogether. At this time, a gift to the Annual Fund can have a profound impact on the lives of students.

| Friends of Music
Gifts to the Graduate Center’s music program support scholarship, research and a wealth of free public performances—recitals, concerts, and special presentations of music from around the world—as well as lectures and panel discussions. Ranked among the nation’s top ten, the music program boasts a stellar faculty, including Pulitzer Prize-winning composers and celebrated concert artists. It grants Ph.D. degrees in musicology and doctor of musical arts (DMA) degrees in performance and composition. Its popular Music in Midtown series of free hour-long midday chamber-music concerts features outstanding professional musicians from the program’s faculty and student body performing at the Graduate Center’s Baisley Powell Elebash Recital Hall. This elegant venue also boasts a rich schedule of performances by guest artists, student groups and the music’s program’s resident ensemble. Added to the schedule in the fall of 2009 is the music program’s new, affordably-priced program of music and discussion — Elebash Presents Concerts and Conversations — bringing together internationally renowned musicians, composers, critics and scholars for six provocative evenings of performance and talk each year.
