| "As our world evolves, the questions we need to pose to the past keep changing. Whether the subject is sex, religion, or violence, power or powerlessness, economic structures or the workings of ideology, one of the most precious and wonderful things the study of history can do for us is to defamiliarize the present. History is an inexhaustible resource." |
