The Mina Rees Library is located on three floors of the Graduate Center at 365 Fifth Avenue. The entrance to the Mina Rees Library is on the ground floor, where a separate library elevator and an interior stairway lead up to the second floor and down to the concourse level. Circulation, reserves, duplicating machines, the dissertation collection, and interlibrary loan office are located on the ground floor. The largest area of the library is on the second floor, which houses the reference, periodicals, and circulating collections, the microform collection, and the music and video-viewing room, as well as the reference desk and library staff offices, including the office of the Dissertation Assistant. Study tables, many computer-equipped, are located throughout this floor. The computer commons and electronic classrooms are located on the concourse level, one floor below the library entrance. Library hours are posted in the library, the lobby, and on the library website (see above).

The Mina Rees Library has been designed to meet the special needs of the doctoral programs in the humanities, social sciences, and mathematics. The collection includes over 301,000 volumes, 600,000 microforms, and about 1,800 current print subscriptions and 16,000+ e-subscriptions to journals and other serial publications. The library’s growing collection of electronic databases is accessible on PCs in the library and throughout the Graduate Center. A current listing of these databases is on the library website. Faculty and registered graduate students may use their Graduate Center ID cards with library bar code to borrow materials from the 20 libraries of The City University of New York system. CUNYPlus (CUNY+), the online public access catalog of the CUNY libraries, is available from PCs throughout the Graduate Center and by web access from any location.

The library’s home page on the Internet — http://library.gc.cuny.edu — provides information, instruction, and links to library catalogs and databases, to live chat reference service, and to thousands of websites and electronic texts selected for their value to doctoral students and faculty.

Website links allow students and faculty to ask questions, request Interlibrary Loans, and request group instruction or individual consultations with librarians. Visit the library’s web pages to also read news about special events, new library services, and free trials of databases.
