It is the policy of The City University of New York (“CUNY”) to promote a cooperative work and academic environment in which there exists mutual respect for all university students, faculty, and staff. Harassment of employees or students based upon sex is inconsistent with this objective and contrary to the university’s non-discrimination policy. Sexual harassment is illegal under federal, state, and city laws, and will not be tolerated within the university. Members of the university community who believe themselves to be aggrieved under this policy are strongly encouraged to report the allegations of sexual harassment as promptly as possible. Any member of the university community may file a complaint of sexual harassment with, or report allegations of sexual harassment or direct an inquiry to, the sexual harassment coordinator, a sexual harassment deputy coordinator, or any other member of the Sexual Harassment Awareness and Intake committee. The complete policy, procedures, and recourse contacts can be found at http://www.gc.cuny.edu/policies_and_procedures/updates/sh_policy.pdf.
The coordinator is Professor Michelle Fine, Ph.D. Program in Psychology, Room 6304.17, telephone (212) 817-8710.
CUNY prohibits workplace violence. Violence, threats of violence, intimidation, harassment, coercion, or other threatening behavior towards people or property will not be tolerated. All faculty and staff members, students, vendors, contractors, consultants, and others who do business with the university, whether in a university facility or off-campus location where university business is conducted, are covered by this policy. This policy also applies to other persons not affiliated with the university, such as former employees, former students, and visitors. A complete copy of the procedures, policies, and resource contacts can be found at http://web.gc.cuny.edu/Security/Workplace_violence/index.htm. Also, for further assistance and resources, contact Graduate Center Security (24 Hours) at extension 7777 or the office of the Director of Security and Public Safety at extension 7761.
CUNY disapproves of violence against women, men, or children in any form, whether as an act of workplace violence or in any employee’s personal life. Domestic violence can spill over into the workplace, compromising the safety of both victims and co-workers and resulting in lost productivity, increased health care costs, increased absenteeism, and increased employee turnover. CUNY is committed to full compliance of all applicable laws governing domestic violence in the workplace, to promoting the health and safety of its employees, and to making a significant and continual difference in the fight to end domestic violence. CUNY will review this policy annually and will notify all employees and the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (“OPDV”) of any revisions. Detailed information is available at http://www.opdv.state.ny.us. Any employee who obtains a temporary or permanent order of protection is encouraged to provide a copy to the Director of Security, John Flaherty at jflaherty@gc.cuny.edu or at 212-817-7761 or Assistant Director of Security Craig Primus at cprimus@gc.cuny.edu or at 212-817-7768.
