Note: these instructions are for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the College of Staten Island.   To apply for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Hunter College for June 2014, please obtain an Admissions Application at the Hunter College Graduate Admissions Office at http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/graduateadmissions. The deadline for submitting your application online is November 1, 2013.  Please go to http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/pt for more information about the application process.

In order to assist in the application process to the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at the College of Staten Island for August 2014 and to assure that all required prerequisites have been met, applicants should utilize the Application Checklist, which should be completed and submitted along with the application to the program. 

The academic and clinical requirements for admissions are as follows:

  1. Students must have completed a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited four-year institution by the end of the semester prior to entry
  2. Two semesters of Anatomy and Physiology for science majors, with laboratories
  3. Two semesters of Physics for science majors, with laboratories
  4. Two semesters of Chemistry for science majors, with laboratories
  5. Two semesters of Psychology (including one semester of developmental psychology or child psychology)
  6. One semester of Mathematics (precalculus or college algebra and trigonometry)
  7. One semester of Statistics (we recommend a course that includes computer applications)
  8. One semester of English composition (e.g., Expository Writing)
  9. CPR Certification by the American Heart Association or Red Cross
  10. Applicants who do not have a degree from an English-speaking country must obtain a passing grade on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  11. Documented clinical experience of a minimum of 100 hours under supervision of a licensed physical therapist in the United States is required before applying to the program; a minimum of 50 hours must be in a hospital-based setting or rehabilitation setting. Inquire at any hospital about volunteering in their Physical Therapy Department to gain this clinical experience. The Clinical Experience Form documenting completion of the 100 hours must be received by the Physical Therapy Program NO LATER THAN November 1st. The clinical experience must be obtained with a licensed Physical Therapist in a Physical Therapy Department and completed by the same therapist. A Clinical Experience Form must be provided by the Physical Therapist by the deadline of November 1.
  12. All prerequisite requirements must be met prior to the starting date of the program in which the applicant is seeking admission
  13. An undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 calculated from all college courses
  14.   15. GRE scores: this is a Graduate Center requirement that cannot be waived. If you have taken the GRE before, you may have ETS submit the scores: the College of Staten Island Code is 2778. Click here for ETS services
