In Memoriam: Beatrice Kachuck
Beatrice Kachuck, professor emerita of educational psychology and women’s studies at the Graduate Center and Brooklyn College, and cofounder of the women’s studies programs at both schools, died June 19, 2014.
Dr. Kachuck graduated from Brooklyn College and taught generations of prekindergarten and elementary school children in public schools in Queens and Nassau County. In 1972, she earned her Ph.D. at New York University; she joined the faculty of the Graduate Center in 1983. She was also instrumental in the 1982 creation of the Sexual Harassment Policy by the CUNY Board of Trustees. As the recipient of Fulbright Scholar awards in 1994 and 1998, she taught women's studies at the Universities of Delhi and Mysore, India, and endowed a series of lectures on women in South Asia at the Graduate Center.
