Performs teaching and research duties, which may include clinical instruction. Clinical Professors are highly-experienced practitioners or teachers who hold full-time, non-tenure track positions.

The Graduate Center is a unit of the City University of New York, the nation's largest public urban university. It is located in midtown Manhattan, across the street from the Empire State Building, on Fifth Avenue between 34th and 35th Street. An internationally recognized center for advanced studies and a national model for public doctoral education, the Graduate Center offers over thirty doctoral programs in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
The Ph.D. Program in Educational Psychology, one of the doctoral programs in social sciences at the Graduate Center, prepares students to conduct research in the application of psychological theory to key problems in the field of education. In accord with the strong research orientation, all students are well trained in the areas of research design, applied statistics, and psychometrics. The Educational Psychology program offers doctoral degrees in the four specializations: School Psychology; Learning, Development, and Instruction; Quantitative Methods in Educational and Psychological Research; and Educational Policy Analysis. Graduates of the program have taken academic positions as well as positions in city, state, and national departments of education, in curriculum development programs, and in research development centers in education.
The Ph.D. Program in Educational Psychology is seeking to fill two Clinical Professor positions in the School Psychology specialization to begin in fall 2014.
The Clinical Professor will teach doctoral school psychology courses, engage in research, and perform mentoring and advisement in the area of School Psychology. S/he will share responsibility for committee and department assignments and maintain scholarly activities.
One of the two Clinical Professor positions will also have an additional role as Program Director in the School Psychology program. The Program Director will provide leadership and guidance for the School Psychology program including program evaluation, program assessment, and accreditation reports.
The Clinical Professor positions are full-time, non-tenure track appointments, with the anticipation that the positions will be available for up to three years, and subject to annual reappointment. One of the two faculty positions will be as Program Director for School Psychology.
The objective of the School Psychology specialization is to develop professional psychologists who are capable of research and practice in preschools, elementary and secondary schools, mental health facilities, community agencies, and higher education. The School Psychology specialization leads to a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and graduates of the program are eligible to take the New York State licensing exam in Psychology. The School Psychology specialization is accredited by the American Psychological Association and the Department of Education of the State of New York. The specialization is currently in "Accredited, Inactive" status and is no longer accepting new applications.
Both positions will report to the Executive Officer of the Ph.D. Program in Educational Psychology.
The Program Director will assume responsibilities associated with the School psychology program (i.e., program evaluation/assessment, coordination of materials and reports for APA accreditation, liaison for all members of the faculty in the School Psychology program, and related activities) and will also perform the duties listed below.
Duties for both Clinical Professors include but are not limited to:
- Mentor doctoral-level students' professional development (i.e., professional practice issues and running professional development series consistent with NASP and APA standards).
- Support internships and practicum, advising, and dissertation supervision.
- Teach doctoral school psychology courses.
- Maintain degree of scholarship reflected in publications and presentations congruent with faculty rank of position hired.
- Engage in research/scholarly/creative and service activities at levels that are appropriate to the faculty rank of position hired (i.e., committee membership and leadership within affiliated professional organizations such as NASP and APA).
Bachelor's degree and a record of achievement in a profession or field of expertise related to teaching assignments. Also required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
- Doctorate in School Psychology
- Licensure as a psychologist, preferably in New York State
- Certification as a school psychologist, preferably in New York State
- Record of significant academic publications and achievement
- Experience teaching graduate courses and supervising graduate students
- Knowledge about NASP and APA standards
- Training and experience in the supervision of practicum and internship students
- K-12 experience as a school psychologist or related work in the K-12 setting
- Experience in assessment and intervention with children and families from diverse backgrounds
Experience directing a doctoral school psychology program is preferred for the Program Director position, in addition to the preferred qualifications above.
