CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Inaugurated in the Fall of 2001 as the CUNY Honors College, the William E. Macaulay Honors College of the City University of New York (MHC) is dedicated to providing outstanding educational opportunities for academically gifted students from the five boroughs of New York City and beyond. The Honors College program includes generous financial support for students who are designated University Scholars upon admission. In addition, the Honors College offers its students unique interdisciplinary seminars focusing on New York City, access to instructional technology, dedicated mentors and advisors, internships, study abroad experiences and a Cultural Passport that provides entrée to the vast cultural resources of New York City. The Honors College operates in consortium on seven CUNY campuses: Baruch College, Brooklyn College, City College, Hunter College, Lehman College, Queens College, and the College of Staten Island. Currently, the Honors College has approximately 1,200 University Scholars enrolled on all seven campuses.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Teaching, Learning and Technology, the Network/System Administrator will be responsible for ongoing operation and maintenance of authentication, file and print, video streaming, web application, and database servers, the wired and wireless network and the IP telephone system and will oversee desktop and audio-visual support.
- Coordinating, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining all network components, including wired and wireless networks, as well as internet and database connectivity for student information systems.
- Studying active and potential problems and developing appropriate solutions.
- Coordinating major IT projects.
- Overseeing installation, testing, and maintenance of hardware, software, and systems.
- Monitors and configures email spam filters and security systems.
- Project management for IT initiatives.
- Specs and research for IT purchases.
- Basic scripting and oversight of application development.
- Oversight of Macintosh repair and maintenance.
- Virtualization for efficiency.
- Serving as Information Security officer for the college.
- Coordinates IT disaster recovery strategies.
- Preparing and/or reviewing computer or communication feasibility studies and specifications and new proposals and their evaluations.
- Filling in for the CIO when necessary at CUNY-Wide Meetings.
- Establishing software security systems.
- Performing database administration and ensuring database security.
- Coordinating, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining IP telephony services, servers, and server software as well as data backup and restoration.
- Network and data security systems.
- Obtaining timely repair services for hardware failures, Internet communication circuit failures, and network outages/disruptions.
- Maintaining and troubleshooting IP-based multimedia video, audio, and video conferencing systems and operations.
- Cooperating with CUNY central IT staff and offices.
- Monitoring network security.
- Supporting the academic initiatives of the MHC.
- Scheduling and supervising support technicians.
I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.
I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college and six years of full time, progressively responsible experience in systems and network support and administration.
- Experience in the higher education environment and understanding of the academic setting.
- Flexible; able to multitask, work well under pressure, and handle administrative and technical duties
- Exceptionally strong communication and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with a wide range of hardware products and software applications including Macintosh and Windows desktop and laptop workstations
- Familiarity with open source applications
