The use of an unscheduled leave or annual leave day, must be requested and approved by your supervisor in advance. The request may be denied. Failure to follow procedures outlined by The Graduate Center and your department/program may result in your being considered absent without leave (AWOL) and being removed from payroll for the absence(s). Attached are the Annual and Sick Leave policies for Non-Teaching Instructional Staff who were hired after January 1, 1988. The Annual Leave cap is 45 days per year. If you are a Non-teaching instructional staff member or concerned about a leave for more than 5 days, the attached document will help you to further understand the policy on annual and sick leave accumulations and usage.
In accord with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Office of Human Resources notified current and newly appointed Higher Education Officer (HEO) series employees of their status. Under the Act, employees whose positions are designated by CUNY as “Non-Exempt” may be considered for overtime pay if their work week exceeds 40 hours. Employees whose positions are designated as “Exempt” are not eligible for overtime payment. Teaching faculty positions are “Exempt” under the FLSA provisions. Article 24.7 of the Professional Staff Congress (PSC/CUNY) Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) contains additional provisions for overtime rates. Please be advised that since May 27, 2010, New York State instituted a moratorium on the scheduling of overtime hours. Paid Parental Leave
The Dedicated Sick Leave program enables individuals who are employed full-time on an annual salary basis to donate sick leave and/or annual leave for use as sick leave by a seriously ill or injured eligible employee designated by the donor. Eligible recipients may receive up to one hundred and twenty (120) days or six (6) months of paid sick leave, whichever is greater, in any one (1) program year (September 1-August 31), inclusive of the annual leave period for teaching faculty. Donated leave may be approved in increments not exceeding two (2) months. The Dedicated Sick Leave Program permits donations of annual leave and/or sick leave across campuses and titles.
